The “Gabriele d’Annunzio” University is located in Abruzzo (central Italy), at a distance of approximately 2 hours and a half from Rome across the Apennine mountains. One part of the Campus is in Chieti, on the Abruzzo hills. The other part, which will be the venue of the Conference, is in Pescara, near the city centre and at walking distance from the Adriatic coast and the pinewood
celebrated by the poet (and Pescara native) Gabriele D’Annunzio.
The Pescara Campus is located in the southern part of the city, near the stadium, at the address: 42 Viale Pindaro, 65100 – Pescara (PE).
As the biggest city in the region of Abruzzo, Pescara boasts a vibrant cultural life, with several museums of national and international relevance (Imago Museum, Museo dell’Ottocento, Museo Paparella Treccia Devlet, Museo delle Genti d’Abruzzo, Museo Cascella, CLAP – Comics Museum). Some important music festivals (including the historical Pescara Jazz Festival and the avantgarde IndieRocket Festival), a national literary festival (FLA – Festival di Libri e Altrecose), an international film festival and competition (Flaiano Film Festival and International Awards), and many other attractions and events.
The city has a small airport with direct connections to/from London (Stansted), Barcelona (Girona), Bruxelles (Charleroi), Kraków, Warsaw, Malta, Bucarest, Prague, Tirana, Düsseldorf (Weeze) and Frankfurt Hahn (most of them Ryanair flights), which might be useful options for those of you travelling to Italy from/via Europe.
These flights weekly timetables may vary according to the season
(some are only activated in the period from April to October), so we recommend checking the airport website or the Ryanair one directly when planning your travel. Pescara’s airport also offers a few national flights from/to Alghero, Bergamo (Orio al Serio), Catania, Trapani, Turin, and Milan (Linate). Both Milan and Bergamo can also be useful as stopover airports when flying to Pescara.
The conference participants travelling from any other location than the ones mentioned above can consider taking a flight to Rome (either Ciampino or Fiumicino), and then one of the direct coaches to Pescara available from both airports. We advise against travelling by train, since Rome-Pescara
railways connections are more complicated and time-consuming than those granted by coaches.
If you are planning to fly to one of Rome’s airports, you can check the coaches’ timetables and prices on the websites of the following companies:
Prontobus (in English or Italian, strongly suggested since it offers fixed prices)
Flixbus (in multiple languages, with costs subjected to last-minute increase)
Clickbus (in Italian, for coaches departing from both Roman airports)
Dicarlobus (in Italian, and only for coaches departing from Fiumicino Airport)
(Please, do not hesitate to ask us if you need our assistance with Italian-only webpages, as they can be
very useful).
If you are planning to stay in Rome for a few days before or after the conference, you can find all useful coach lines (all of the previously mentioned ones plus another) at Rome’s Tiburtina coach station (a few underground stops away from Termini train station). These coaches can be booked
through the same websites as above, plus:
https://difonzobus.com/en/ (in English or Italian)
If you are planning to reach Pescara by train from other locations, you can check the available routes and prices on the official Trenitalia website (available in multiple languages).
